Ombre

What is Ombre?

Ombre refers to colour fading from dark to light, or vice versa. The word "ombre" in French means shadow or shade.
Martha Stewart
Ombre can appear in almost anything, from shoes to hair.
AK Anne Klein
Drew Barrymore
It is a great way to save money too, for example, rather than buying 5 or 6 different varieties of flowers for your centrepiece, using Ombre you can use the same flower just in varying shades.

Design*Sponge
For Wedding and Events Ombre looks most effective when used as a feature on one element, such as bridesmaid dresses, centrepieces or cakes or even your wedding gown.

Valentines Day Dessert Bar

The very talented Belinda from Styled by Belle created this gorgeous Valentines Day party for her two young sons and their 'girlfriends'.

Belinda designed the dessert table in a colour scheme of red, pink and aqua blue, with pink tulle as the backdrop.

Kiss'n Cuddle Cookies from Kiss My Cakes
"The amazing Helen from Kiss My Cakes baked a divine vanilla buttercream cake, from which I hung a mini metallic love heart bunting from wooden skewers across it.

And there was also a surprise inside, with a layer of red velvet -- just to add to the romance with a splash of red colour!"

Little red letterbox, with a "love letter" cookie baked by Kiss My Cakes
Raspberry & white chocolate hearts

"You had me at jell-o" (jelly). Served in little pots with love heart chains & wooden spoons topped with metallic hearts

Hawaii

In a less than 2 weeks I will be in my favourite place on earth, Hawaii.

Hawaiian Sunset - Honeymoon 2005
Hawaii holds a special place for me, it is where my husband proposed (also our first overseas trip together) and where we had our honeymoon.  We seem to celebrate our big milestones there, and this time it is my husband's 30th Birthday.

I'm looking forward to lying by the beach with cocktails, shopping and scuba-diving for my first time.  The Prior Engagement team will still be here in the office, and it will be business as usual.

You don't have to be in Hawaii to have a Hawaiian themed wedding or event, and a Hawaiian theme doesn't have to mean gaudy shirts and bright leis.  I love this Inspiration Board from Snippet & Ink for a breezy, neutral Hawaiian style wedding.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year!

I wish you all the very best for 2012.

Ok, so I'm keeping my promise to blog more.  I can't promise my blogging will be War and Peace, however I will be a more active blogger, even if it's just a photo, a tip or idea, or anything else I think of or come across.

I love this Viewmaster wedding invite —remember those as a kid?

Designed by Melangerie Inc. and available here each Viewmaster is loaded with a custom reel of photos—for example, engagement photos of you and your groom displayed with wedding information text on each slide.

While pricey, they're incredibly creative and nostalgic, and will definitely make an impression on your guests.

New Years Eve 2011

It's New Years Eve 2011.

I have so many plans for 2012, I can't wait to get started.  Things aren't going to change dramatically they're just going to get better.

I never stick to New Years Resolutions, so this year I'm not going to make any. I am going to make a couple of promises to myself which I will keep, and by putting them on here, they will be in black and white forever.
  • I will blog lots more
  • 2012 will be the biggest and most exciting year yet for Prior Engagement
  • I will be thankful and appreciate just how lucky I am
  • I have just permanently changed over from PC to Mac and I'm finding the change quite difficult, however I will have more patience with this change.
Last year Mr PE and I spent New Years Eve in Times Square, New York. This was a once in a lifetime experience, and something I will never forget.

This year we will be celebrating with dinner with the family, and then watching the 9pm fireworks on one of the gorgeous Gold Coast Beaches.  Then home to watch a movie.

Whatever your plans or if its just another night, I wish you a happy and safe 2012.

Preppy Pink and Navy Wedding

Pink and Navy may not be a colour combination you have thought of, yet the colours of this wedding show this is a gorgeous combination.

"When the time came to plan our wedding, we knew we wanted it to be timeless and classic, but not traditional, with a dash of good old Southern Hospitality all the way up in Minnesota. Eighty percent of our guest list was flying in for the wedding and we did not want them to worry about a thing. We rented a charter bus to take them to and from the wedding, and when they arrived at the boat club they were immediately handed either a Mint Julep or a John Daly and an Hors d’oeuvre as they waited for the ceremony. "

Weddingchicks said "We love the idea of keeping the Mason jar as a wedding favor. Not only do they get to use it at the wedding, but every time guests use it they will remember your special day"
